Many folks gather nightly in order to test the limits and race their cars; they simply love showing off their cars and showing off. However, street racing isn't only dangerous but also against the law.

One of the most popular cars in the illegal street racing scene are import cars such as Honda Civic's, Acura Integra's and Toyota's; pretty much anything that is made in Japan. The most popular car by far on the scene is the Integra which also ranks as one with the highest theft rate due to the popularity of its parts.

Most of the enthusiasts with import cars are Asian but there are many Caucasians who are into the import racing scene as well. Most cars have undergone numerous modifications in order to improve appearance and performance aspects.

Muscle cars are also very common in the illegal street racing scene. These include the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. There is usually a bit of rivalry between import drivers and those of American cars.

Street races are usually planned ahead of time. Enthusiasts contact each other beforehand and agree on a meeting spot. Industrial areas tend to be very popular for illegal races because the roads tend to be less travelled during night time.

Some races will start spontaneously. Two drivers will pull up at a red light and one will challenge the other by revving his engine. If the other driver responds, they will usually end up seeing who's faster.

Thousands of accidents occur due to this dangerous activity. Repeat offenders face the possibility of having their cars crushed into scrap metal.

It's important to remember that street racing is illegal and also very dangerous. For one, participants lack the safety precautions that professional race drivers have access to such as roll cages. Not only are the participants endangering themselves but they are also a serious threat to innocent drivers and bystanders. All it takes is just on driver to lose control in order for a catastrophe to occur and some of these cars are hitting speeds of 80, 90 mph on inside streets or even faster.
